Depression in Pakistan

What is depression?

In Pakistan depression affects 35% of people.

Depression is a common or serious medical illness(that most of the people won`t consider especially in Pakistan). But unfortunately, Pakistan is one of those countries where anxiety, depression and stress are at it`s peak. There is no specific age or class of those who are suffering.

A depressed person don`t enjoy even the good events such as getting married or starting a new job.

Ignorance:

In Pakistan, people usually ignore such things, even friends make fun of him who shares his personal problems with them.

On a lighter note, his friends usually suggest him to visit mental hospital.

They don`t realize that what he will be going through. And then at it`s worst depression leads to suicide.

Causes:

Most common reasons are domestic issues, failure, poverty, bad justice system, stressful working conditions & much much more.

Research says that maternal issues maybe a risk factor for power growth in young children.

 Awareness:

Government should step forward to improve mental health services.

Unfortunately, in our country people think that consulting a psychiatrist means that they are abnormal. But they don`t understand that their basic responsibility is to bring back people back to their normal lives. There is nothing of being mental if one take therapies.

Due to lack of awareness, people don`t exactly know what depression is, even if they know they won`t accept because of the fear of being called MENTAL CASE by the society.

Acceptance:

When one`s depressed, everything feels exhausting. It’s hard to get out of bed or sleep, hard to eat (or hard to eat well), hard to talk and hard to listen, hard to work and hard to relax. You’re always fighting your emotional weariness.

One of the most important things you can do to help a friend or relative with depression is to give your unconditional love and support.

We should always accept them with our arms open because kind words take nothing.
